Waited for the owner, of course. Damage to their car (2008 VW Golf diesel) is a small dent to the left side of their upper rear bumper part, and a crack in their outside left brake light.
That's not their car, but it is the same make, model and colour. No damage to the Volvo, because Volvo.
So now i'm trying to work out how much it will cost me, and whether I should go through insurance or just straight pay them via bank transfer. Any UK Opponauts got experience here? My excess is £500 so anything significantly above that i'd probably have to do via insurance.

If you don't go through insurance, definitely write out a "contract" saying the money you're paying is in full and should settle the matter. If they agree and sign it, it should get you off the hook if they try to pin anything else on you.
p.s. get a rear camera.

that taillight assy is probably the biggest expense, the dent should cost very little to fix depending on how much pain you left and how far in its dented.

If UK Repair Shops are anything like US ones, they'll bend you backwards in labor costs.
Maybe the driver will be one of those who doesn't care and let's you go!
Kudos for staying around though - someone tapped me and left. The damage isn't that noticeable, but they cracked the clearcoat in two areas. I'm looking and a full rear-bumper refinishing in a few years now.

It wasn't going backwards, I was swinging out of a space and forgot I had the new light bar on my car that sticks out more than my old one, it caught their bumper as I swung the front past their car.
I'm hoping they can heatgun the dent out, and respray it, then replace the outer light.
